THOMAS E. RODGERS JR.(Producer)

Tom, otherwise known as TR, was born in Rye, New York in 1953. TR’s first job was an usher at none other than Radio City Music Hall. TR was a teen when he moved to Miami Beach and Miami has been his home since. Through the years, TR has had a catering business that after Hurricane Andrew served 4000 people a day. TR was also a part creator and producer for the children’s TV series “Jelly Bean Jungle.” TR has a love of Louis Armstrong and through this love A Wonderful World was born. He shared this vision with his brother-in-law Andrew Delaplaine and the rest is where we are today.

RENEE DELAPLAINE RODGERS(Producer)

Renee Delaplaine Rodgers is not only a long-time fixture on South Beach, but she also helped to create the cultural, dining, and entertainment mecca that it is today. In the late ’80s, Renee, along with her brother Andrew Delaplaine, opened Scratch, one of a few restaurants in what was then a run-down and depressed area of Miami Beach. Adjacent to Scratch, they then launched an Equity theatre as well as a black-box nightclub called Backscratch. Having found great success in the now revitalized area, they then opened the legendary Warsaw Ballroom which quickly became one of the most outrageous and popular gay dance nightclubs of the era, ushering in a vibrant, new dance and music scene in Miami Beach. Needing more to do, Renee then launched a champagne brand with Andrew and Sophie, as they had to have something to toast with! Additionally, they opened two newspapers, The Wire and Antenna. Renee is also a writer and illustrator of several books.

VANESSA WILLIAMS(Producer)

Vanessa Williams is one of the most respected and multi-faceted performers in the entertainment industry today, selling millions of records worldwide. Her work in music, film, television, and the Broadway stage has been recognized with four Emmy nominations, 11 Grammy nominations, a Tony® nomination, three SAG Award nominations and seven NAACP Image Awards. Her platinum single, “Colors of the Wind,” from Disney’s Pocahontas, won the Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Her 2012 autobiography, You Have No Idea, co-written with her mother Helen Williams, was a N.Y. Times Best Seller and she released Bubble Kisses, her first picture book for children, in 2020. Most recently, she starred in the World Premiere of POTUS, Selina Fillinger’s Broadway comedy, directed by Tony Award® winner Susan Stroman. She is part of the star-studded panel of judges for RuPaul’s Paramount+ competition series, “Queen of the Universe,” which will return for a second season. This fall, she will star as Miranda Priestly in the West End premiere of the musical The Devil Wears Prada.

LIZ CURTIS(Producer)

Liz Curtis began producing theatre with A Time to Sing at the Kennedy Center starring Renée Fleming and Vanessa Williams. Choreographer for PBS’ “Big, Band Ballroom Bash,” Dance With Me (American Choreography Award nomination) starring Williams, partnered with John O’Connell to choreograph “Shall We Dance,” starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, as well as The 80th Academy Awards nominated songs from “Enchanted.” Seven-time US Professional Latin-American Ballroom Dance Champion and World finalist. Liz has produced many hours of dance programming for cable TV and is currently developing a number of theatre, film and TV productions.

REMMEL T. DICKINSON(Producer)

Remmel T. Dickinson has been a working theatrical producer for some 15 years with multiple Tony®, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Nominations and Awards. His Tonys® for The Norman Conquests, Memphis, and War Horse are of particular note. Other nominations include Nice Work If You Can Get It, Catch Me If You Can, and in the current season Cabaret at The Kit Kat Club. Regarding A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, Mr. Dickinson is delighted to be working again with James Monroe Iglehart, a good friend on Broadway since his important featured role in Memphis.

AURIN SQUIRE(Book)

Aurin Squire is a playwright, reporter, and screenwriter from South Florida. He has been awarded the Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, Seattle Public Theatre’s Emerald Prize for new plays, and fellowships at National Black Theatre and The Dramatists Guild. His political satire Obama-ology was first developed at The Juilliard School’s summer workshop before going on to be produced in London, Los Angeles, and Dallas. Squire was also a writer for Miami New Drama’s 7 Deadly Sins, which won a Drama League Award for Outstanding Interactive Theatre, and Confessions of a Cocaine Cowboy which he co-wrote with Billy Corben. In TV, Squire was a co-executive producer and writer on the TV dramas “The Good Fight” and “Evil.” He has been nominated for two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, a BlackReel Award, and a WGA Award for his work on “This is Us.” He is a New Dramatists resident playwright, a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, and the Writers Guild of America. He graduated from The Juilliard School and Northwestern University.

ANDREW DELAPLAINE(Co-Conceiver)

Andrew Delaplaine is a journalist and novelist with over 300 books to his credit including the series Midnight Mass – Amos Freeman, The Keystone File – A Jack Houston St. Clair Thriller, Santopia, and Sherlock Holmes IV. He has also written many travel guides and several screenplays, winning the Milan International Film Festival Award for Best Original Screenplay for Meeting Spencer starring Jeffrey Tambor, and directed over a dozen movies including Life’s a Drag (When You Are A Man in a Dress). He has written and directed three features (one doc, two narrative features), and won several awards for his film work. Delaplaine grew up in South Carolina and resided in New York City and South Beach for much of his life.

CHRISTOPHER RENSHAW(Co-Conceiver/Director)

Born in Reading, England, educated at Oxford University, Renshaw has directed plays, operas and musicals worldwide, working with such artists as Boy George, Vincent Price, Hayley Mills, Patricia Routledge, Donna Murphy, Mark Rylance, Luciano Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland. Highlights include Broadway: The King and I (Drama Desk Award for Best Director, Tony® nomination and four production Tony Awards®). London: We Will Rock You, produced by Queen and Robert De Niro (West End). Pure Imagination, featuring the songs of Leslie Bricusse (St. James Theatre). Taboo, co-conceived with Boy George (London, Broadway). Taboo, the 20th Birthday Gala Concert in 2022 (Palladium). International: The Mikado (Sydney Opera House). Carmen La Cubana in Havana, Cuba, with orchestrations by Hamilton’s Alex Lacamoire (London, Paris, Cologne, Amsterdam, Berlin, Shanghai). DARRYL G. IVEY(Music Director)

Darryl G. Ivey has been heavily involved in the fields of Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Pop and Musical Theatre since 1986. After private musical study with pianists Jaki Byard (protégé of Charles Mingus), Billy Taylor (protégé of Art Tatum) and saxophonist-composer Frank Foster (longtime Musical Director of the Count Basie Orchestra), Ivey served as Musical Director at 23 for Australia’s 1st National Tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’. Following a successful tour in Australia, he continued to work with Ain’t Misbehavin’ throughout the US, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. Darryl was honored to musically direct Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, directed by Lonny Price (Long Wharf Theatre). Broadway: Associate Conductor for Five Guys Named Moe and Shuffle Along. James Monroe Iglehart is a multi-award winning actor from stage and screen. A Broadway veteran with such credits as King Arthur in the Broadway revival of Monty Python’s Spamalot, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Hamilton in the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and freestyle love supreme. He is mostly known for his Tony Award®-winning role as Genie in Disney’s Aladdin the Musical. He has been seen on TV in shows like the Netflix series “Maniac,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Elementary,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” He is an Emmy-nominated voice actor lending his voice to many animated characters from Disney, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks, and Apple TV.
